Two missing Bangladeshi PhD students from the University of South Florida (USF) in the United States have been murdered. The body of one of the missing students, Jamil Limon, has been recovered, but the body of the other student, Nahida Bristhi, has not been found. However, police said they fear that Nahida is no longer alive.
Pinellus County Police recovered the body of 27-year-old PhD student Jamil Limon from over the Howard Frankland Bridge in St. Petersburg early Friday (April 24). Hisman’s roommate Hisham Abugharbiya was identified as the main suspect in the incident.
Police conducted a dramatic operation to arrest Hisham. Hours after Limon’s body was recovered, police found Hisham’s house in the Temper Lake Forest area. Hisham was forced to surrender after a long 20-minute barricade situation in the presence of the SWAT team. He is currently in police custody.
Nahida, a student of chemical engineering, has given a very critical message to her family about the rain. Nahida’s brother Zahid Hasan said “A large amount of blood has been found in Jamil and Hisham’s apartments. Investigators believe that Nahida was killed and her body was torn apart, making it impossible for her body to be found. Nahida was last seen on the U.S. campus on April 16th.
Hisham Abugharbiya has been charged with domestic violence, evidence laundering and unlawfully removing the bodies. According to the police, the incident was carried out by Hisham alone.
Former FBI agent and criminal expert Dr. Brianna Fox, who analysed the incident, said the way the evidence of the crime was spread out in different parts of the Tampa Bay area, it did not appear to have been designed; rather, attempts were made to destroy evidence in a hurry. Limon’s body was found near the crowded Howard Frankland Bridge. Financial transactions, jealousy, or immediate quarrels are usually behind such incidents. According to him, after analyzing the history of the crime of the accused, it is seen that violence has increased rapidly.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation was still ongoing. After the post-mortem of Limon’s body, more stringent charges may be brought against Hisham. At the same time, a special operation is underway to find Nahida.
