Speaking to reporters recently, US President Donald Trump indicated that he would look at Cuba after the ongoing conflict in Iran ends. He said that action on Cuba would be taken only after the situation in Iran is resolved. However, Trump said that the main focus for now is on the Iran crisis.
In the meantime, the Trump administration has tightened existing sanctions on Cuba, putting more pressure on the country’s weaker economy. Cuba, which is in the economic crisis due to long-standing U.S. sanctions, has largely relied on Venezuela’s oil.
The situation has become more complicated after the U.S. operation over the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Cubans were among the dozens of people killed in the operation.
Referring to U.S. military intervention around the world, Trump said: “We have achieved tremendous success in many ways. In the first term, I built the military and rebuilt it, and we are using it.
Referring to Venezuela and Iran as examples, he claimed that the United States had made significant success in these operations.
According to analysts, the Trump administration is trying to strengthen its geopolitical influence by increasing global military and strategic activities. If new tensions are raised in Cuba after the Iran crisis, it could increase the risk of another major conflict in international politics.
